Puzzle Me This

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but...

Over the years a lot of people have worked for CareySound so it’s not unusual for one of them to use their time with us as a reference but this newest twist is just down right bizarre.

Twice in recent months, while closing on new installs, we have been surprised to find that we had been bidding against ourselves so to speak. Our competitors, two different local companies no less, were claiming in their bids that the audio had been designed by and was being supplied by CareySound. One can only assume that they thought by invoking our name they had a much better chance in securing the job. While we are flattered that they hold us in such regard we are more than a little alarmed that our name is being invoked by these inferior interlopers without our knowledge or consent. Not only have we never worked with these companies before, we have never even employed anyone working for them. So...

Please insist on the genuine article and look for the SoundMan™ on the label. If you have any doubts please call us at (336) 379-1943.

Rumba D'Cache

International Restaurant and Lounge

rumba2

Rumba D'Cache, one of the largest live music nightclubs in NC, is now open for business in Greensboro in the new International Mall on West Market Street. Its first big concert event will be on February 16 with Colombian international recording artists Grupo Niche.

We were excited when owner Edwin Dubon took us on a tour of the facility. This is a very large room and it needed a top notch sound system that had to come in within a very tight budget for what had already become a multi million dollar project. It needed a system that could satisfy the needs of the many international groups that are booked for the venue and the gear had to have a reputation within the Latin community.

The timing could not have been more perfect. Our large inventory of Electro-Voice Manifold loudspeakers was being sold in preparation for our move to Pomona Drive and they made for a perfect fit at the new club. In addition to he Manifold system they also purchased a 40/ch DDA QII FOH console with a matching DDA QIIM monitor desk with Electro-Voice FS 12-2 concert monitor wedges and DeltaMax DM 1152 delay speakers for the back section of the main room and sound in the large pool table room. Additional Manifold boxes have been bought for a large outdoor stage in the front of the club for use this summer.

CareySound Provides Solutions

We are not in the business of selling you stuff rather we are dedicated to finding the best solution for your needs. The following just a few of the many solutions that we have provided recently representing examples from the simple to the complex.

Springfield Baptist Church - High Point

ZZ744C5E85
IMG_1514
This was a very reverberant sanctuary that had been having intelligibility problems for years. We we able to overcome those issues to their complete satisfaction without resorting to drastically more expensive acoustical treatment to the room utilizing a single source center point solution with high directivity.

Mt Zion Baptist Church - Greensboro

ZZ12480AF1
IMG_9487
We just replaced their system that had never addressed some very serious problems in this room. This sanctuary is not only very wide but is was built completely backward to the way auditoriums are built with the tall part of the room in the front and the short part of the room in the rear end with a balcony. This arrangement effectively funneled all of the sound down into the back rows and presented many more reflective surfaces in the process. This in addition to a very loud HVAC system. We were able to solve this unique combination of issues with a precisely focusable speaker array.

Linda Sloan Theater - Greensboro, Day School - Greensboro

ZZ25F16792
The system we just replaced was designed for general PA announcements and not for the ambitious live theater productions that the theater was intended to produce. For years the audience complained that they were unable to hear the performances particularly in the balcony and during their elaborate musicals with a live orchestra in the pit. The new sound system we designed addressed the only remaining issue standing in the way of this making it the finest performance theater in North Carolina.

Guilford Park Presbyterian Church - Greensboro

IMG_2804
IMG_8569_2
This long and thin sanctuary with a highly absorbent ceiling and seating area made it very difficult to hear in the back half of the room. It was either too loud in front or too soft in the rear. We solved this by designing a carefully timed, delayed, distributed sound system.

Aggie Stadium - NC A&T SU - Greensboro

IMG_0018
IMG_0009
The design criteria is this project was to get very high fidelity sound to the entire stadium that would be loud enough to be heard over a cheering crowd to enhance to very expensive high definition jumbo video system installed in their new scoreboard. It was solved with by working with the sign maker Barco to design a first of it's kind scoreboard that could handle the deployment of a full blown concert sound system.

Corbett Sports Center - NC A&T SU - Greensboro

IMG_2134
IMG_2115
Just having a PA system to make announcements for a basketball game is no longer acceptable at modern sporting events. A high output, high fidelity, easy to use & maintain and flexible use system was the design specifications for NCA&T's Corbett Sports System. We solved it using zoned high end concert loudspeaker components controlled and monitored with a sophisticated state-of-the-art control system.

We would love to take you on a tour of these facilities and discuss what we can do to provide you with you own solution.

It's Huntin' Season

The Aggie athletes make it hunt and CareySound makes it growl.

IMG_9418 IMG_9421
Deep inside the beast, towering high over Aggie Stadium at North Carolina A&T State University, the CareySound crew was busy marking sure the dog would growl for the crowds attending last nights game. The secret to the beasts growl is in the EV X-Line Line Array System that CareySound installed two seasons ago inside the top of the scoreboard. ESPN was on hand to broadcast the game.

Problem - Solution

A year ago a devastating fire a year destroyed the sanctuary of Springfield Baptist church in High Point. CareySound was honored to be chosen to redesign and replace the old system. Their new system features the Electro-Voice EVI loudspeaker for the congregation and EV Zx-1 monitors for the choir.
blocks_image_10_1 IMG_1514IMG_8762

Electro-Voice EVI is the perfect choice for Springfield Baptist

Without resorting to very expensive acoustical solutions to control the long reverberation times present in the design of the sanctuary, the unique design of the EVI loudspeaker proved to be the perfect solution. While providing an even sound field to the seats the system avoids adding excess energy to the reverberant space by keeping the sound focused on the congregation and off of the walls by means of its patented EVI Vari Intense® horn.

The EVI system provides an economical solution for permanent installations that require coverage over a rectangular area. In a typical sanctuary, the distance from the loudspeaker to the last row is two or more times that to the front row, resulting in a substantial loss in level and intelligibility at the rear. The VI horn delivers 6 to 8 dB more SPL to the back of the room, overcoming the level loss without resorting to the expense and complexity of additional speaker systems or components.

Summer - Not All About Concerts

It was a hot summer for concerts for CareySound's production department with over 70 events in June, July and August laden with incredible artists including Bruce Hornsby, Arron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, Frankie Beverly, Joe Diffie, Derrick May, Anonymous 4, Mavis Staples, Doyle Bramhall II, Lee Roy Parnell, and A Drop In Silence to name just a few. But concerts weren't the only thing that was hot this summer.

Lead by Tommy Martin, the VP of sales at CareySound, our sales division was busy filling orders. The following are a few of the highlights not already mentioned in earlier posts.

IMG_8564_2 IMG_8569_2
It's a long way to the top if you want to mike the choir.

Following on the heals of complete system replacement by us in March, Guilford Park Presbyterian Church decided to add microphones for the choir and their installation provided this unique view of the sanctuary.

We are still busy working on the project which is expected to be completed this fall that will provide a large multii-use room, more classrooms and new choir room.

The system installation trifecta we just commissioned at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist in Hickory of audio, video and lighting illustrates the blurring of once technical divides by the close integration of these technologies. And of course it wouldn't be a CareySound installation without an ample representation of the finest the audio industry has to offer in the BOSCH family of products. Electro-Voice speakers and microphones, Dynacord system processing and amplification, MIDAS mixing console, and University distribution.

Press Release Downloads

Cobra Press Midas press

I'm not sure how these press releases from Telex slipped by me since they exclusively feature several installs we have done our the past couple of years. The first one covers the Cobra/MIDAS/Klark Teknik installation in Calvin Gilmore's (of Carolina Opry fame) Tribute the Concert theater in Myrtle Beach, SC. This system still sets the benchmark for audio on the Carolina coast.

The second article centers around Church audio and how we solved the new expectations of house of worship audio excellence with MIDAS consoles in a variety of local churches including Cathedral of his Glory and Westover Church in Greensboro. Churches present a unique audio challenge in that the message is paramount and any bad audio that stands in the way of this communication is unacceptable. MIDAS is at the leading edge of pristine audio mixing and they now have consoles that cover all price ranges. There just aren't any more excuses for bad audio, not even small budgets. But, don't just take my word on it. I dare you to call me now and make me prove it by setting up a demo in your venue.

Both of these articles (Carey_Tribute & Carey_Verona) can be found to the right in the Tech Download section.

It's Not Too Late... Yet

IMG_0038
When is the last time you preformed any preventative maintenance on your audio, video and lighting systems? Do all of your wireless microphones work? Have you cleaned the filter and checked the lamp hours of your video projector? Have you checked to make sure all of you system settings are back to peak performance since Youth Sunday? Easter is just around the corner and that is one of the times of year we receive lots of requests for emergency service. It's not to late to sign up for our Maintenance Program. (Click here to see details)

Reverend Chubbs of Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro said, "Everything is Beautiful" since we performed our initial maintenance inspection, cleaning and tuning a couple of weeks ago. Call one of our account specialists now and make an appointment. Don't wait until it's broken.

High Point Church Sanctuary Upgrade

DSCN0096_1 DSCN0120
Word of Reconciliation Ministries in High Point has recently completed upgrades to their sanctuary. Included in the upgrade was a MIDAS Venice 240 mixing console, Electro-Voice Zx-1 monitors and Elation Parnel light fixtures. The Zx-1 loudspeakers have quickly become a favorite with our customers for their amazing performance in such a small form factor.

DSCN0108
The Electro-Voice ZX1 is the new standard of no compromise audio performance and versatility for compact sound reinforcement.

The high-tech enclosure is lightweight and extremely durable. The enclosure has been engineered to provide maximum rigidity and acoustic performance. The port design overcomes the limitation of many small loudspeakers and enables exceptional low frequency response without vent noise. The ZX1’s long excursion, high output 8" woofer with a weatherized treated cone delivers smooth low frequency performance with exceptional reliability.

A sophisticated crossover network integrates it with the EV DH2005, a 1-inch exit true compression driver with extended frequency response and high output capability. Full-bandwidth overload protection is provided for reliable, long term operation without audible effect.

I double dare you to call us NOW to have us bring you a pair for evaluation and prove to you they are everything we say they are.

Hickory Church Construction Update

IMG_0048 IMG_0061

IMG_0049

Not even a devastating wind storm, that brought construction to a stop at the end of last year in a pile of twisted framing, could deny Greater Faith Missionary Baptist their new church. "Of course the destruction from the storm was a terrible setback...but the new construction is coming along faster than expected," pastor Reverend Marcus Williams said. CareySound finished roughing in the wiring for the new sound and video system today and is looking forward to the completion of the new church along with Reverend Williams.

06' Budget Time

For most of us, the dawning of a new year means reassessing last years activities and making our plans for the coming year. If you are like us, our reputation and livelihood depends on the equipment we use working at peak performance. All of that expensive gear is useless if it fails to perform when needed. When it comes to your new budget, make sure to include system maintenance.

Over the years we have developed in–house programs to maintain our extensive equipment inventories in our rental and concert production departments. We are offering you this opportunity to benefit from our years of experience in electronic equipment maintenance. We have designed a maintenance program that throughly inspects your system and performs routine maintenance on a regular schedule.

CareySound helps Cheshire Center communicate.

page0_blog_entry8_1
The Cheshire Center in Greensboro moved to new offices and CareySound was chosen to design and install a monitoring system for their therapy rooms.

The Center has received numerous awards during their 25 years of service providing speech therapy, community based rehabilitative services (C.B.R.S.) to a largely pediatric population and provide occupational therapy services. They are one of the largest private clinics in this area in their specalty. The new system allows the parents to discretely listen to the therapy sessions involving their children.

Nicole Ackley, an application specialist that has worked for CareySound for over three years worked with the Center to design the new system. The core of the systems, which include multiple rooms, consist of Electro-Voice 7100 amplifiers and Evid loudspeaker systems and are controlled with a Rane MLM 42 mixer. Special attention was placed on the choice and placement of microphones to accommodate both clear amplification and discreetness. A combination of Crown PCC barrier microphones and Sennheiser wireless lapel systems were chosen for the task.

For more information concerning this installation please call CareySound at (336) 379-1943,
