Blue Product Placement?
August.30/ 2006
Apple Computer just released a new comercial for their iPod/iTunes. It features Bob Dylan singing into a Blue microphone. You can click here to see the video. I wonder how much they paid for this.
Speaking of product placement, John recently spotted the Electro-Voice logo displayed prominently on the EV 635 ENG broadcast microphone used repeatedly in the new movie Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby staring Will Ferrell.
And a little insider trivia - does the shape of this wireless microhone look familier?
For years this was the shape that was recognized as a wireless microphone to the general population. A friend and former EV employee, Gary Parks, came up with the idea to have a bunch of dummy VEGA handheld wireless transmitters made up (VEGA was once owned by EV) with the uniquely identifiable hour-glass shape and give them to broadcasters and movie makers to use as props in TV and film. You could not escape this clever product placement for years and this was before the time that product placement was even in our lexicon.
